Music education for young singers Building upon the successful first year of St. Martin’s Schola Cantorum program, we are pleased to continue our training of the next generation of church musicians. Mindful of the Second Vatican Council’s mandate that “much emphasis should be placed on the teaching of music,” and of the important role in the cognitive, artistic and spiritual development that music plays, Schola Cantorum choristers will be trained in the techniques of healthy singing, solfege, sightreading, and rhythmic analysis. Students will be educated in the music of the church, with a particular focus on Gregorian Chant, and will learn about the importance of music in worship.
